Domitianus (81-96 AD). AE 30 (12.37 g). Smyrna, Asia. L. Mestrius Florus, proconsul Asiae. Obv. ΔOMITIANΩ KAICAPI CEBACTΩ ZMYPNAIOI THN ACIAN, Draped and veiled Bust of Asia/Demeter Horia to left, holding corn-ears and cornucopiae.
Rev. EΠI ΛOYKIOY MECTPIOY ΦΛΩPOY ANΘYΠATOY, Temple with eight columns, statue to either side. RPC 1019 (3 specimens); Klose, Smyrna 72 (V22/R62) (1 specimen).
Exceedingly rare, the fourth specimen known and only the second one from these dies. Fine.
L. Mestrius Florus, proconsul Asiae 83/84 AD, was a friend of Vespasianus.
