Ephesos, as Arsinoeia, Ionia. AE (18 mm, 3.84 g), c. 290-281 BC. Obv. Veiled head of Arsinoe II right. Rev. Stag kneeling left, looking back, astragalos to right; AΡ-ΣI and magistrate name in fields. SNG Aulock 1840
Rare. Green patina. Very fine.
From the Laffaille and PA collection; ex Münzen & Medaillen AG 76 (1991), 470 and ex Hess-Divo AG 307 (2007), 1232.
Lysimachos made himself master of Ephesos in 295 and shortly thereafter changed
the city's name to Arsinoeia in honor of his wife, the daughter of Ptolemy I.
