eAuction #4, Lot 55. Estimate: CHF 125.00
Kings of Bactria. Heliokles I. (135-110 BC). AR Drachm (18-19 mm, 3.04 g). Obv. Helmeted, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ / HΛIOKΛEOΥ / ΔIKAIOΥ, Zeus seated left, holding sceptre and flying Nike with wreath. Mitchiner 162, type 287. Bop. 225, série 4A.
Very rare emission. About very fine.
Heliokles is only known from his coins, but scholars suspect he might have been the unnamed son of Eukratides I., who, according to Junianus Justinus, murdered his father on a campaign in India. Heliokles probably was the last Greek king of Bactria before it got conquered by the Yuezhi.
