eAuction #84, Lot 4. Estimate: CHF 500.00
Central Gaul, Helvetii. AR Quinarius (12 mm, 1.17 g), mid 1st century BC. Ninno type.
Obv. NINNO, Male head to left.
Rev. Boar standard to left.
Cf. DT 3279; Castelin SLM 960; HMZ 1-32a.
Very rare and apparently unpublished with a boar standard instead of a rushing boar. Very fine.
These
rare quinarii can be ascribed to the Helvetii and are best known from
the Balsthal hoard, found between Basel and Solothurn in 1839/40. Whilst the typ usually shows a boar rushing to left, our specimen clearly depicts a boar standard.
