eAuction #7, Lot 109. Estimate: CHF 50.00
Crispus (317-326 AD). AE3 (17-19 mm, 3.16 g), Treveri (Trier), c. 326 AD. Obv. FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, fur over left shoulder. Rev. PROVIDENTIAE CAESS, campgate with two turrets, star above. Ex. PTR(dot above crescent). RIC VII, p. 209, 477.
Nicely toned. Extremely fine.
The exact meaning of the fur over the left shoulder is unclear. It only occurs on late Roman coins from the Trier mint.
