eAuction #29, Lot 373. Estimate: CHF 2'000.00
Mexico. Augustin I Iturbide (1822-1823). AV 8 Escudos 1823 JM (36 mm, 26.99 g), Mexico City. Fr. 60; KM 314.
Rare. Above average strike for the issue. Some weakness, otherwise, very fine.
Augustin Iturbide was a General that took over control upon Mexico's Independence in 1821 and established the first Mexican Empire. After a military revolt in Santa Cruz in 1823, he stepped down and fled to Europe. In 1824, Augustin returned to Mexico but was quickly arrested and executed by opposing forces.
