Gordianus III (238-244 AD). AE Medaillon (38 mm, 24.67 g), Markianopolis, Moesia inferior. Obv. AYT K M ANT ΓOPΔIANOC AYΓ, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust left, raising hand and holding globe; aegis on cuirass Rev. YΠ TEPTYΛΛIANOY MAPKIANOΠOΛITΩN / OMONOIA, city-goddess, holding cornucopiae, standing right, clasping hands above altar with emperor standing left, holding scroll. AMNG I, 1098; Varbanov 1935.
Very rare. Smoothed in fields, otherwise, very fine.
This medallion is part of a series struck from the same obverse die for three different cities: Markianopolis, Odessos and Tomis.
