eAuction #36, Lot 12. Estimate: CHF 250.00
Lousoi, Arcadia. Under the Achaean League. AE Tetrachalkon (19 mm, 4.69 g), 191-146 BC. Obv. ANTOMAXOΣ, Zeus, nude, standing left, holding Nike in right and long sceptre in left. Rev. AXAIΩN ΛOYΣIATAN, Achaia seated left, holding wreath in right and long sceptre in left. BMC 165; Clerk 72, BCD Peloponnesos 1446 (this coin).
Of great rarity, one of very few known. Nice green patina and good fine, with better details in hand.
From the BCD and Rhousopoulos collections (with their original tickets), ex LHS 96 (2006), 1446.
Lousoi was a very small city in the north of Arcadia of which little is known. Its only coinage consists of a small issue of Tetrachalkoi of the Achaean League.
