eAuction #41, Lot 16. Estimate: CHF 350.00
Kallistai, Arcadia. Under the Achaean League. AE Tetrachalkon (18 mm, 5.11 g), c. 188-146 BC. Obv. ANTANΔPOΣ, Zeus, nude, standing left, holding Nike in right and long sceptre in left. Rev. AXAIΩN KAΛΛIΣTATAN, Achaia seated left, holding wreath in right and long sceptre in left. BMC -: Clerk 57; BCD Peloponnesos 498 (this coin).
Extremely rare. Good fine.
From the Rhousopoulos and BCD collection; ex Hirsch XIII (1905), 2424 (illustrated on plate XXVIII) and LHS 96 (2006), 498.
This coin sold for 75 RM in 1905, making it more expensive than all the Aegina coins and two attractive Sicyon staters in that sale!
