eAuction #38, Lot 15. Estimate: CHF 2'500.00

Thaliades, Arcadia. AE Dichalkon (16 mm, 4.17 g), c. 350s BC.
Obv. Forepart of bull running right, all within circular linear border.
Rev. ΘA, forepart of ram right, all within shallow circular incuse.
BCD Peloponnesos 1756 (this coin).

Unpublished save for its previous auction appearance and one of only two known (the other being sold in Münzenauktion Essen 90 (2005), 88). Black patina and very fine.

From the BCD Collection, ex LHS 96 (2006), 1756 (2600 CHF).

Thaliades was a very obscure city of which practically nothing is known. It struck an extremely rare issue of silver coins in the 5th Century BC - so rare that BCD was not able to obtain any - but prior to the appearance of this and the Münzenauktion Essen coin, bronze coins were completely unknown.
