eAuction #41, Lot 37. Estimate: CHF 250.00
Aristo Mutumbal Ricoce, suffetes. AE30 (26.59 g), c. 40 BC. Caralis, Sardinia. Obv. Jugate heads of magistrates right, ARISTO MVTVMBAL RICOCE SVF around. Rev: Tetrastyle temple; VENERIS around, KAR in exergue. RPC 624.
Rare. Good fine.
There has been some discussion over the identification of the portraits, but they most likely show local magistrates. Both the name Mutumbal and the office of Suffetes named in the legend show the long-living Punic influence on Sardinia.
From the BCD collection, ex Edward J. Waddell Ltd auction 1 (1982), 583 (as Carthage, sold for 1200 USD!).
