eAuction #14, Lot 23. Estimate: CHF 350.00
Phlious, Phliasia. AR Tritetartemorion (8-11 mm, 0.59 g), c. mid to third quarter 4th Century BC.
Obv. Λ-Φ, forepart of bull butting right.
Rev. Head nymph of the river Aroanios to right, her hair rolled, APOA before. BMC 12 = Traité III, 726, pl. CCXVIII, 32; Cf. Helios 4 (2009), 46 (same dies).
Extremely rare, possibly the third known. Very fine, broken. The readable reverse legend on the Helios specimen (which is in slightly better condition but also broken) allows to identify the head as nymph of the river Aroanios rather than Hebe, as had been suggested before.
From the BCD collection and ex LHS 96 (2006), 128 (head identified as Hebe with question mark).
