eAuction #45, Lot 169. Estimate: CHF 7'000.00

Zand. Karim Khan (1753-1779). AV mohur (25 mm, 10.89 g), Kashan, AH1171, with mint epithet dar al-mu'minin.
Album 2787, type B.

Extremely rare. Small scratch on the obverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.

Karim Kahn was a general for Nadir Shah who seized power when the Afsharid regime collapsed in chaos. After years of civil war, he won control of most of Persia and established a rule that provided much-needed stability and prosperity. He never assumed the title "shah" or "king" and instead styled himself as "Representative of the People." He is still regarded as one of Persia's greatest rulers. The gold mohur of Karim Khan was struck only for presentation and not for daily circulation.
