Kleitor, Peloponnesos. AR Hemidrachm (13 mm, 2.94 g), c. 470s-early 460s BC. Obv. Zeus Lykaios seated left on low throne, holding long scepter with his left hand and with eagle flying off his right, AR (inverted) Rev. Head of Kallisto to left, wearing taenia and necklace and with her hair in a queue; all within incuse square, ARAK. Williams I, 3, 30e (this coin).
Very rare. Beautiful early classical style. Nicely toned and very fine.
From the BCD collection and ex LHS 96 (2006), 1396; acquired from Münzen & Medaillen AG (Basel) in 1983 for 1600 CHF (!).
