Gallienus (253-268 AD). AE37 (21.14 g), Apollonia-Mordiaion, Pisidia.
Obv. AVT K Π ΛI ΓΑΛΛΙΗΝOC, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right.
Rev. ΑΠΟΛΛΩNIATΩΝ ΛV / ΘΡAΚO, River god Hippophoras reclining left, holding reed and cornucopia, resting elbow on inverted vase from which water flows.
Von Aulock, Pisidien II, 184 ff. SNG Paris 1366.

Minor flan faults as usual and some encrustations, otherwise, good very fine.

On the reverse of this coin, Apollonia claimes a Lycian and Thracian heritage. Epigraphic evidence from the vicinity of the town (esp. names on graveyards) confirms the settlement of Lycians and Thracians, although the date of the settlement is unknown. It may have occured as early as during the reign of the first Diadochs.
