Aegira, under the Achaean League. AR Hemidrachm (14-16 mm, 2.60 g), c. 86 BC. Obv. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. Monogram of AX; above, forepart of goat to left with, to left and right, A-PI/CTO; all within laurel wreath. BMC -; Clerk -; BCD Peloponnesos 406.
Very rare. Gently toned and extremely fine.
Aegira was a small town southeast of Aegae with a rather obscure coinage dating from the 4th to the 1st Century BC. Its final coinage was issued under the Severans.
