eAuction #45, Lot 18. Estimate: CHF 500.00
Eastern Celts, Danube region. Imitating Alexander III (336-323 BC). AR Tetradrachm (27 mm, 17.20 g), late 4th to first 3rd Century. Obv. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ, Zeus seated to left, holding sceptre and eagle; to left, Λ over torch; below throne, ant. Cf. Price 454 (Amphipolis).
Beautiful surfaces. Good very fine.
While the Amphipolis issues often are of a slightly crude style, the rather clumsy lettering and style of the reverse point towards a very good early celtic Imitation.
