A note from BCD: A variety of Roman and Roman Provincial bronzes as well
as Roman Republic silver are the chief components of this auction. By now the
Sternberg sales had become the November event in Zurich, with Leu and M&M
beginning to feel the heat. On the other hand there may never have been enough
high-powered coins in his auctions to really threaten these two established
firms but what surely was beyond competition were the famous Sternberg dinners;
dealers and collectors still talk about them!
