eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 17. Estimate: CHF 15.00
[Boston
MFA] Vermeule, Cornelius. “Monete greche acquisite alla collezione del “Museum
of Fine Arts” di Boston dal 1953 al 1960,” Numismatica
II/3 (Sep.-Dec.) 1961, 8 pages, including 2 plates. Original protective printed
card covers, faded. Fold line through center of publication. Good.
A note from BCD: A little known and probably quite rare precursor to
the “Boston Supplement” as it is known in numismatic circles. Cornelius
Vermeule was keen to let the world know that Boston was still a strong buyer at
international auctions. He therefore wrote this well illustrated article for
the Italian “Rivista” to show off his latest Greek coin acquisitions. A far cry
indeed from the attitude of today’s major museum curators…
