eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 19. Estimate: CHF 5.00
Cahn,
Herbert A. “Poseidion on Karpathos?” NC
6th ser. Vol. XVII (1957) 11-12, plate 2. Dedication. Protective
printed card covers foxed. Interior Very Good.
Daehn 4918.
A note from BCD: Short but to the point, Professor Cahn sheds doubt on
the Karpathos attribution and not without reason. It looks as if, for the time
being, those staters (and the hecte that is surely from the same mint) will
remain “uncertain south west Asia Minor or neighbouring islands”.
Interestingly, the author’s dedication reads “Peter Strauss, Esq.” instead of
“Pierre Strauss”. Probably a subtle joke of the Professor, addressed to his
second in command in the M&M organization and close collaborator for many
years.
