eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 235. Estimate: CHF 10.00
Numismatic Chronicle, The. The Royal Numismatic
Society. London. Volume 141, 1981. 8vo, hardbound original red cloth, gilt
spine letters. 216 + xxvi pages, 38 plates. White spots to cover. Interior Very
Good.
A note from BCD: Kraay is very much at home here when he
deals with an archaic bullion type hoard in “A Black Sea Hoard of the late Fifth Century BC”. The pick of the
Asyut hoard having gone to the British museum, Kraay was only able to secure a
final parcel for the Ashmolean of mostly cut coins and fragments. Perhaps it
was this acquisition that prompted the Oxford collection curator to undertake
the publication of this hoard that had so many common characteristics with his
Asyut parcel.
