eAuction #4, Lot 56. Estimate: CHF 200.00
Kings of Bactria. Philoxenos (c. 125-110 BC, or later?). AR Drachm (16 mm, 2.43 g). Obv. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ANIKHTOΥ ΦIΛOΞENOΥ, diademed and draped bust right. Rev. King on horseback right, legend in Karoshti around; to lower right, monogram. Mitchiner, Indogreek, 339c; SNG ANS 1171.
Nice for the issue. Good very fine.
Ex F. R. Künker 89 (2004), 1633.
After Apollodotos I., Philoxenos was the only indo-bactrian king to issue square AR Drachms. The date of his reign is uncertain, but he probably lived at the end of the 2nd or the beginning of the 1st Century BC and ruled in Gandhara (modern Peshawar).
