eAuction #54, Lot 81. Estimate: CHF 1'500.00
Idalion, Cyprus. Uncertain King. AR Stater (25 mm, 10.51 g), circa 470-460 BC. Obv. Sphinx seated left, raising forepaw; Cypriot letters around (most off flan). Rev. Lotus flower; ivy leaf to left, astragalos to right. BMC 10 = Tziambazis 43.
Very rare, a highly interesting issue. Somewhat rough as usual and with some edge corrosion, otherwise, nicely toned and very fine.
From the Christopher Morcolm Collection, ex CNG MBS 76 (2007), 762. Privately purchased from Baldwin's in 1974.
