eAuction #54, Lot 80. Estimate: CHF 400.00
Kelenderis, Cilicia. Antiochos IV of Commagene (38-72 AD). AE22 (6.73 g). Obv. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ / ANTIOXOΣ, diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Antiochos to right. Rev: ΚΕΛΕΝΔΕΡ / ΕΠΡ ΠΑΔΗ, Apollo standing left, holding branch and leaning on column surmounted by trident. SNG France 737-8. RPC I 3710. Ziegler 255 (this coin).
Very rare and unusually nice for this difficult issue. Some striking weakness, otherwise, good very fine.
RPC doubts the authenticity of this issue with the trident rather than a lyre set on the column, but the die-linking and the emergence of pieces from different sources and with various kinds of patination shows that they are actually genuine.
