eAuction #11, Lot 21. Estimate: CHF 150.00
Abdera, Thrace. AR Diobol (11 mm, 1.52 g), c. 5th Century BC. Obv. Griffin seated left. Rev. Ram's head right in rectangular incuse. May -; Weber -; SNG Cop. -; Evelpidis -.
Possibly unpublished. Obverse slightly off-centre, otherwise, good very fine.
Our coin is certainly considerably earlier than May 301-304, which have the ram's head left and a magistrate name and are dated to c. 411-386 BC, and may date as early as the first half of the 5th Century.
