Rev. PRAETOR - RECEPT, Claudius, bare-headed and togate, standing right, clasping hands with soldier, in military attire, standing left and holding aquila in left hand.

Rare. Flan fault on reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

This Aureus, inscribed PRAETOR RECEPT and showing Claudius clasping hands with a Praetorian (most likely the prefect), commemorates the role the Praetorian guard played in the accession of Claudius to the throne after the murder of Caligula.
