eAuction #4, Lot 60. Estimate: CHF 200.00

Indo-Scythian Kings. Spalahores (c. 75-60 BC), with Spalagdames. AE Unit (22 mm, 8.58 g). Kandahar mint.
Obv. ΣΠΑΛΥΡΙΟΣ ΔΙΚΑΙΟΥ ΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ ΤΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΟΥ, king on horseback right.
Rev. Herakles seated left on rock, holding club set on leg; to left, monogram; all within rectangular line; legend in Karoshti around.
Mitchinger, Indogreek, 2167.

Good very fine. Nice patina.

Spalahores was the brother of Vonones (with whom he apparently co-ruled), and Spalagdames was his son and successor. Judging from the coin finds, they ruled in what today is north-western Pakistan and southern Afghanistan.
