A note from BCD: Sternberg’s second auction was in partnership with the gold department of Swiss Bank Corporation, an excellent bank that later merged with Union Bank of Switzerland without, unfortunately, transferring any of its fine qualities to the new owner except its logo of the three superimposed keys. A comprehensive selection of modern gold coins was offered and the explosion of prices was due to the unstable financial conditions at the time.
